After an attempted suicide Carter finds himself in a coma. He is able to hear the world around him, yet he can’t move. What he hears propels Carter to begin to see life in a new way, especially when one of his nurses, Kinley, shares parts of her tragic past with him. Soon, Carter realizes he is falling in love with her.
Months after being transferred from the hospital, to a rehabilitation facility, he suddenly wakes up with a passion to live that he never had before and a determination to find the one person he feels may be able to help him put the pieces of his life together again. However, when he returns to the hospital, Kinley is gone and Carter must try to find her based solely on the things she shared with him while he was in a coma.
Only, nothing is as it seems and Carter learns the biggest lesson of them all… the differences between expectation, perception, and reality.

A Little Bit of Q&A

A common misconception entwined with authors is that they are socially inept, how true is that?
I believe classifying any group of people together with certain traits is the largest misconception in humanity. I’ve met quite a few authors throughout my career and have found each one to have personalities as different as anyone else. Some are bright and friendly, some reclusive and quiet.

Do all authors have to be grammar Nazis?
I think we all want to be the best we can be, so I think it can be a habit to correct grammar. However, I also think that’s why we have editors. I try not to pay too close attention to those details, because it takes away from my creativity.

If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?
I am so happy to be publishing the novels I’ve written through the years. It’s a dream come true, so I guess, my own.

What makes this particular genre you are involved in so special?
My books all seem to fall into different genres. I love the YA and NA genres because that’s where I connect the most. I think we all do. I didn’t write for specific genres, it just happens some of my books fall into them. When I first started the publishing process and a consultant told me my first novel fell into young adult/coming of age, I really hadn’t expected it. I just thought it would be general literature.

How important is research to you when writing a book?
I think it is important, but I also don’t want to cloud the story with too many details. OHB: Thank you!

What works best for you: Typewriters, fountain pen, dictate, computer or longhand?
Computer, without a doubt! My phone second.

When did it dawn upon you that you wanted to be a writer?
When I was ten years old, after my grandfather died, writing became my way of expressing pain and also served as an escape.

What inspires you to write?
Everything! Love, pain, happiness, sadness… all of it inspires me.

How often do you write?
Nearly every weekday morning and then when the feeling hits me. Often, I get up at four or five am and spend several hours writing before the day starts. Some days, in the middle of a work day, I’ll get the feeling and take a break to write. Every now and then I’ll wake up from a dream and write all night.

Do you have a set schedule for writing, or are you one of those who write only when they feel inspired?
Both. My husband wakes often in the middle of the night to find me writing. He just shakes his head and goes back to bed. 😛 OHB: How supportive <3
