Oh Hey! Books Interviews Tia Souders [The Truth About Us + Giveaway]
The present is built on the past. But what if your past is a lie?
When 18 yr old Abigail Bridges’ grandmother dies, she leaves behind a mysterious letter asking her to unravel a hidden family secret.
There is only one rule: tell no one.
But meeting strangers in the dark and receiving old journals dating back to the Holocaust isn’t what she bargained for. Neither is a chance encounter with the enigmatic, brown-eyed Kaden Oliver, who makes her want to discard her usually reserved nature.
After a key clue goes missing, Abigail ignores her grandmother’s rule and tells Kade everything. Together, they begin to unravel a terrifying secret. The truth may set others free, but for Abigail, it will tear her family apart.
Now, she must decide between continuing to uncover her families’ lies or burying the past once and for all.
What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?
I haven’t, which is kind of a bummer! If I could go to one place tomorrow though, it would be The Margaret Mitchell House in Atlanta because I’m a huge Gone With the Wind Fan and love The South!
What is the first book that made you cry?
Oh, gosh! Maybe I’m showing my age, but I can’t remember! LOL The first one I can remember would be At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks! So sad. It still depresses me just thinking about it.
What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry?
I hate to say this but there are a lot, which really stinks. I would have to say the worst are book pirates and plagiarism. This is a huge problem, especially for Indies. Having someone steal something you have poured your blood, sweat, and tears into and spent your own hard-earned dollars on and distribute it for free--or worse, sell it as their own--is absolutely horrible.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Both! It depends what kind of day I’m having. If I write an absolutely amazing scene or come up with a great idea and the words are flowing, then I’m pumped. If the words just aren’t coming or I hit a huge roadblock, then I’m totally wiped!
What are common traps for aspiring writers?
There are a lot! Vanity publishers who will take your money to do something you can do yourself (and getting nothing in return). Thinking you don’t need an editor and not taking your time to publish.
Does a big ego help or hurt writers?
I think it can hurt. You need to have confidence, but if you are so full of yourself, you won’t see the areas in which you can and need to improve.
What is your writing Kryptonite?
My kids. LOL It is super hard to work when they’re home.
Have you ever gotten reader’s block?
Yes! OMG, I have it right now! I just can’t get into anything I pick up. I hate it. I really want an amazing read but nothing is catching my interest enough!
Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
Yes, but in the end, why change my name? I see no real reason to, unless I write something completely different in the future, then I would consider it.
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I have tried to be original with all my books, thus far. However, my next project is a contemporary romance duet and it is definitely more mainstream and on market. I think I need to try and write both--what readers want and what calls to me. Hopefully, they meet somewhere in the middle.
